Strategy – culture eats it for breakfast.
If you, as a company, want a fundamental change, it is vital to have a strategy. You have to know what you want to achieve. However, there is often overconfidence in the possibilities of strategy.
We often believe that a clear strategy is the most crucial tool for achieving our goals. We want to be able to say: Hey! I have a plan!! In this way, we show strength and drive. But if it means that you go into a clinch with your own corporate culture, you risk getting big problems.
These are strong forces challenged, which a strategy can seldom defeat. Management guru Peter Drucker said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” which is probably true. At least if you implement a strategy without taking culture into account. Then the culture wins the match, every time.
But – a strategy that is aware of the conditions of culture, and takes them into account, has a good chance of success. Then you can change and implement cultural shifts, even if it takes time. Don’t give up; building a creative corporate culture is possible.
Can you describe your corporate culture? How do you describe it?
